[Food Review] Return to Hou Yi
A friend and I decided to meet up after missing out on stuff last year. Coincidentally, we decided to meet up for hot pot again. When the wallet is a little thin and you're dying to eat a lot, an AYCE deal just might be our best option.
I suggested Hou Yi Hot Pot because I had a good experience last time. Since it was a weekday, it is $26.95 per person. Like before, there's little guests during the day. We ordered a duo pot, half Sichuan spicy and half bone stock. As expected like our previous outings, my friend had to abandon the spicy. I laughed at him for choosing it. The Sichuan spicy stock is coated with chili oil. When we stirred up the stock, we saw that they had thrown in half a cup's worth of Sichuan chili peppers. Good going, friend. The beef stock I had contained a handful too much goji berries and cabbage.
This time we ordered a lot of food. Almost way too much to the point we would be wasting it. We promised ourselves that we have to finish this all up no matter what. Even if we overstayed our visit to two and a half hours. I tried out one of the house drinks, the honey lemon. It was a lot more honey than lemon and honestly, that honey is most likely some other sweetener. I was drinking sugar water. As a reminder, drinks are unlimited here. My friend needed that unlimited ice cream to calm down the scorching heat on his tongue.
To give an idea of how much we ordered for two people, I will provide you a list. We practically ordered almost every sort of sliced meat they had on the menu; sliced beef and sirloin, lamb, pork, lots of tripe, really fresh shrimp, fish tofu, and two kinds of fish balls. I made sure I sampled every sort of leafy green there was on the menu, different kinds of cabbage, huge mounds of watercress, and bok choy. The enoki mushroom I got last time was a smaller bunch, but this time, we had nearly two bags full. Yeah, we went crazy.
