October Recollection and November Calls

October this year has certainly been a great month for me. I got to see a concert, a movie, and two of my favorite TV dramas. I started Legend of Korra and drew my first doujinshi. It has all been part of the great experience.  After all this has ended, I can't wait for October to end. I'm not a fan of Halloween except for its sales on candy. These last few days have been rainy and cold, but I am not feeling under the weather. I am feeling surprisingly positive.

The most important thing that happened this month was my X Japan concert. It was my first concert and I was seeing some of the greatest people performing. If it weren't for Yoshiki, I wouldn't know about X Japan. Actually I did, I just never bothered looking them up. It started about two years ago when I started following Yoshiki online. I thought he was a pretty cool guy. Little did I know he was more than just cool, he is fucking amazing. Eventually I got really into everything Yoshiki related and discovered X Japan. I'm still a pretty horrible fan. I don't know the lyrics to their songs and I don't know all their songs. I only know a handful of the band's history based on Wikipedia and that's pretty much it. Now that I am aware of X Japan, I have such profound respect for them because they are the pioneers of visual kei. I love Yoshiki a lot because he's so cute and shy (sometimes not so shy), but also very hard working and loving.

Sleepy Hollow and Supernatural finally aired. I'm actually disappointed with Supernatural because it really isn't exciting anymore and it's progressing very slow so far. There's nothing too gripping or suspenseful to label it as a horror or sci-fi series. Overall very disappointing for me. I'm just hoping that next week's episode may have some exciting hack and slash and hilarity. Sleepy Hollow on the other hand was far more interesting to me. Even though I'm getting sick and tired of Katrina's character, the adventures of Ichabod and Abbie are more appealing. The Horseman of War is now one of my favorite villains out of the entire series. It leaves more of a chill in season two than the Headless Horseman. The new sheriff may be posing a lot of problems for Abbie, but I'm interested in the further development. What happens if this no nonsense sheriff realizes the gravity of the situation?

A lot of my friends started Legend of Korra when it first aired. I decided to jump the bandwagon now that the final season began. I was very happy to see that they created a very good sequel to the Avatar universe. With Legend of Korra, they expanded more on the universe and retained a lot of the culture and humor that the original series had. I think a lot of the characters were very well fleshed out and the villains of the series are always very interesting. They're never one sided black and white characters. I also think they way they incorporate politics into the series was very well done and it's also a very positive story with educating morals. Just because it's labeled as a cartoon, it doesn't mean adults can't watch it. I encourage all audiences to give it a try.

An achievement I rendered this month was beginning a JoJo doujinshi. My undying love for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was cut short about a month and a half ago when season two ended. So to continue the spirit of the series, I thought up a few scenarios in which the characters appeared in an alternate universe I created. Thus the doujinshi was born. I was excited, but also afraid because I don't want to incur the wrath of copyright. But seeing that I published my doujinshi for free and I made sure all credits were given to the right people, I should be safe. I learned a lot of things just from drawing nine pages for a single chapter. One is that storyboarding really organizes your ideas a whole lot better and that writing even a small synopsis helps a lot too. The second thing is that knowing how to and when to use screentones brings life to your manga. And lastly, my drawing skills have improved once more. They may be inconsistent, but I'm proud of the stuff I made. If you want to give it a try, read my doujinshi here.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one out there, but I'm keeping an eye out on holiday related material. When I saw those fake Christmas trees at a shop window in my neighborhood, I was secretly cheering "yes". Someone knows what I'm thinking. What I'm basically doing so far is keeping an eye out on holiday cards, because over the years I used up my boxset. It's time to update on new designs. Plus my list of people to send to has been shifting constantly. There are people that I honestly will not send cards ever again because I do not wish to see them in this lifetime. To balance it out, there are some people I am planning to see next month because our relationship requires some hanging out. You gotta see some people once in a while.
