[Food Review] Dough/Attack of the Sea Salt
If you're craving for some doughnuts, don't hesitate to try out this spot.
For $3, you get a yeast doughnut. A co-worker once brought in a whole box of doughnuts from Dough and we all gathered 'round to sample each flavor. You have a huge selection and there should be one that you would like. There are flavors like dulce de leche, matcha, red velvet, and cheesecake. Then there's a sugar covered one, Boston cream, chocolate covered and lemon poppy. I don't quite remember each one I had, but the one that had an apple was my least favorite. I think it may have been an apple pie flavor. I found it really tart. Cheesecake to me was whipped cream. Lemon poppy was a less tart sugar glazed kind of doughnut.
I've had a cafe au lait flavored one as an after lunch snack. The stuff on top was like coffee cake. Essentially it was a coffee cake in doughnut form which I enjoyed very much. It would go well with a coffee or tea. What I like about Dough doughnuts is that for $3, they're very filling. There's enough substance in it to be called a doughnut.
Recently I had a Belgian chocolate one, the one shown in the photo here.
I was craving a chocolate flavored one and they had three types. There was Belgian chocolate, milk chocolate and some other flavor. I picked Belgian chocolate on a whim. After my lunch, I sampled into it. Mmm. Thick chocolate, not bad ... what? Is this ... sea salt? I know sea salt on confectioneries has been a trend for quite some time and I'm not against it. I had a sea salt dark chocolate bar before and it was quite good. But these were some huge salt crystals on my doughnut. Few, but lethal. I instantly regretted getting this one. Next time, take a closer look at the toppings.
