Anime Watch Summer 2019 Impressions

A follow up post to my previous post. These titles are currently still running from the Summer 2019 leftovers.

Enn Enn no Shouboutai

Despite being terribly cliched, it does have its moments of intrigue now that they fleshed out the antagonists more. Shinra's missing brother, Sho, is alive and on the side of the Evangelist which kind of adds more flavor to the plot. I do like the art style that the show is done in. It's unconventional and more comic book like. The drawing and animation done with flames in the Shinra vs. Hoshimiya scene was very good in my opinion. The studio has kept it very lively.

Kimetsu no Yaiba

This show seems to get better and better. While it falls into the shounen gnere, Kimetsu no Yaiba sets itself apart from other shounen titles. Youtube Gigguk sums it up really well here in his video. My reasons for watching are pretty much the same as his.

Nakanohito Genome

I've grown to like this show more. It's a very interesting isekai story and there's clearly a mystery surrounding our main character. The whole existence of the 13th Avenue, the game itself, and Roromori's obsession with Akki, is what makes this show so fascinating. Each character is cutely designed, but they reserved an edgy trait for each of them. For instance, Himiko is a nurturing type, but she always has her flash grenades on hand. Everyone is also harboring a dark or painful secret about themselves and some of them are more or less related to the game they're trapped in.

Dr. Stone

The first episode was really off putting, but I decided to give it a try. It really picked up the pace for me and I find each episode more exhilarating than the next. Simply the idea of rebuilding civilization is interesting enough. I was glad that the story is more focused on Senku because if I had to be stuck with Taiju each episode, I think I would drop the series completely. Taiju after all acts as a foil to Senku though upon further inspection, Tsukasa can also be read as a second foil. Tsukasa is equally cunning and intelligent as Senku, but when it comes to choosing who gets to live, Senku is more forgiving.

Vinland Saga

I don't know why some people ignore this series, but it's pretty damn good. It's not simply a bunch of people pillaging villages. Something about the characters really draws you in.
