[Food Review] Tick Tock Diner, We Betrayed the Pho

After watching The Secret Life of Pets, Lils and I went to eat. This time I wanted to go to a diner. What a poor choice I made. Nam Son, we betrayed you for burgers instead of pho.

I know diner food is pricier than fast food chains, but I expected more deluxe in its items. We tried Tick Tock Diner hoping we get that old fashioned American diner feel. Nope. There's no greeting and it almost felt cold. Not that I really care for a greeting, but I didn't feel welcomed. We stayed for half an hour. On our records, that was the least time we ever spent eating in a restaurant. We decided to split our meals with each other. Lils ordered a cream of broccoli after we were told that a chicken noodle soup would come with our fish and chips ($15.95). We also got a steakhouse deluxe burger ($13.95). Here's where the disappointment started and the lack of greeting was the last of our problems.

The cream of broccoli came first and the first thing we noticed was that Lil's spoon wasn't properly cleaned. We also noticed her cup still had lip stains. I inspected my cup and luckily it passed the test. Our silverware however required some more attention. Lils said the soup tasted alright. The burger came and so did the fish and chips. You promised us a chicken noodle soup. Where is it? At this point we didn't bother to ask. We were starting to understand why this was a 24 hour diner. It was made to cater to tourists.

The steakhouse burger I have to admit was very good. The patty was moist and flavored right. At least that went went, we both agreed on that. The slab of bacon that wedged in the sandwich was alright. The supposed brioche they used as a bun felt very soft like your typical hamburger bun, not much substance to it. I didn't bother touching the cole slaw. Both fries on both orders were cut very large. They get soggy really quickly due to moisture and if they had cut it smaller, they would have been able to stay crispy.

Fish and chips was almost an insult to our palette. Charging us $15.95 for two cod pieces and fries made from one potato feels like a joke thinking about it in hindsight. The cod pieces weren't particularly large. Worse of all, they didn't even bother to drain the oil. Any professional would do that. The cod was mushy on the inside, proof that it was not dried beforehand and that it's most likely frozen cod.

I was thinking since Tick Tock is located so close to the theaters and is practically in the center of the city, it would have decent food. Other than the burgers, I can't trust that they have other good foods. We were regretting why we had not walked to Chinatown for pho instead.
