The Halal Guys
Everyone knows about The Halal Guys in New York City. People were always leaving positive notes about how great their food is. It's delicious. It's affordable. It's quick. Today was the time to experience it for myself.
My friend and I happened to be in the area to visit the Farmer's Market to acquire some honey. Since The Halal Guys was around the corner, we decided to visit the store. Our stomachs were practically begging for food being the food lovers we are. No shame in that. I ordered a small chicken and beef over rice ($6.50). The guy cooking my food was quick and I was eating in no time. If there was one thing I regret, it was nodding my head for the hot sauce. A word of caution for those with low spice tolerance, this stuff is spicier than sriracha. My mouth was burning and I couldn't taste anything, but scorching pain. He only gave me a tiny dollop. The cold ginger ale couldn't even settle down my fiery tongue. My friend had it even worse. She stirred it all over her food while mine was concentrated in that one spot. Bless the food gods were allowing me to always eat good food. The rice platter was absolutely delicious! I don't know how to describe this feeling of utter joy when you eat the first bite. The aroma is extremely appetizing and you just want more. The bed of orange rice is frangrant with exotic spices. I had mine with chicken and beef. Next time, I want to try their lamb. The addition of shredded lettuce and tomato adds sweetness to cam my already spicy sauce.
My friend asked for more pita. I personally wasn't too fond of the pita. The white sauce was the wondrous addition. The infamous white sauce that The Halal Guys was known for was something I've been dying to try. For a scorching tongue, white sauce was my other best option to remove the heat. It's creamy and acidic adding another level of flavor to the already fragrant rice platter. I've heard that they use a mayonnaise as a base, but the rest of the concoction is a secret formula. Whatever it is, it doesn't taste like a chemically produced sauce, but something made with heart. Halal Guys, I hope to see you guys soon!
