A New Writing Sensation
A story has sat with me for about 8 years. The thing has been done for a long time, but I could never make it past editing the first 8 chapters. It was abandoned and picked up again twice through revisions and edits. I resumed the editing in 2014 and then proceeded to have a hiatus for several months. Recently, I started writing again.
I am writing again thanks to Wattpad. I initially discovered Wattpad when I was linked to a Kamijo oneshot. I don't read fanfiction anymore. Most of them I come across are shallow projections of the author's lust for their object of affection. Rarely are they something original and inspiring. This Kamijo one however was kind of interesting and it wasn't too bad actually. I decided a few months later to join Wattpad in order to reach an audience. Keeping your own writing on a personal website isn't going to generate feedback for you. After navigating through the website for a week, I noticed that it's extremely popular among teenagers. A majority of the authors are teenagers and a majority of the writing, original and fanfiction, are romance. No surprise there.
Despite being heavy on the romance, there are a few authors that are older and write about other things. But seriously, for every genre they list on the site it's related to romance. I click on Action/Adventure and the first twenty covers had romance written all over it. C'mon give me some good brawls! I had to do a lot of sifting to find stuff worth my time. I did come across a good story recently that focused more on the adventure part with romance only as a side story. I guess I'll give Wattpad more chances. I haven't read an actual novel since early this year.
Paranormal action is what I write for the most part. I love writing about demonic activity and guns blazing, which is pretty much what The Oni Slayers is about. This was the story I had written 8 years ago. It started mostly as hack and slash (still is) and developed slowly into the main character realizing his dream for vengeance. I actually have the sequel planned out, but the first book isn't even done yet.
Over the years, more and more ideas sprung from my mind. Many were abandoned. Some were written as drafts, but few actually managed to be published online. Among the published, they all involve macabre subjects. Demise was about the dangling fate. The Devil's Pact was about the consequences of summoning. Wicked Feast was an extremely short story about a boy becoming cannibalistic. Talk about dark and grisly at the same time. My newest published story The Gods of Gambling is a niche story about back alley way gambling literally. I wanted it to be a oneshot, but seeing that it could possibly be extended, I planned two more chapters making it a three chapter story. I don't know who could possibly be interested, but I sure am a big fan of gambling related stories and movies.
As I said before, I don't read fanfiction. It shouldn't surprise you that I don't write it. The last time I attempted one was over a decade ago for Prince of Tennis. I scrapped the idea because it felt stupid after I wrote it. It never saw the light of day. Here I am a decade later planning to write a Dir en grey fanfiction. What the hell are you thinking?! Writing fictional stories about celebrities has always been a no-no because celebrities are real people. I'm essentially inserting my own ideas to create what is a false image of a real person. But then again, you don't know the celebrity personally and most of Dir en grey's personal life has been kept secret. So I thought why not give it a try.
The pending story is a paranormal horror story. During the band's American tour, Kyo goes missing and is presumed dead by the local police. They go on hiatus unable to deal with the loss. One year later after this event, something otherwordly starts hunting each member of the band down. This idea came to me somehow. I don't know how it formulated in my head. Maybe because October is the spooky month, spooky ideas pop up. Another Dir en grey fanfic idea that came to my head was the story of Wei, a story told through the point of view of a fan boy. The overall plot planned out is to have Wei grow from being a total fan boy to someone who realizes that following your favorite band won't get you anywhere in life. It's one of those positive growth stories that I want to try and write about.
