I'm on to episode two of "Mei-chan no Shitsuji" and I'm really liking this show even though everything's plain bizarre. It did come straight out of a shojo manga after all. So now Mei chooses to fight instead of doing nothing because she is determined to make sure that her parents will be buried together in exchange for enrolling in St. Lucia as a part of a pact between she and her grandfather. This grandfather has not been given a lot of information so far except that he is the head of the extremely wealthy Hongo family. Mei being the kind-hearted and naive girl has to put up with a lot of the students because they continue to ostracize here and bully her. In this episode, Bitchface Rika is the bully and she gets her punishment. However, troubles will not end for Mei because she discovers a new enemy, a true rival! Mei may have crumbled in the previous episode, but I can't wait to see her shine. The scenes and acting are still cheesy to the max and I appreciate the positive message behind the story. The minor characters are there for the comedy and I find them annoying instead.
Since I'm not going to read the manga nor look for spoilers, I'll do a prediction. Since this jdrama was labeled a romantic comedy, the triangular love will occur between Mei, Rihito, and Kento. Though Kento is the childhood friend, I think it's most likely the story will pair Mei and Rihito. As to why Rihito chose to serve Mei, I'm guessing it has to do with some childhood thing that Mei probably doesn't remember. Maybe some students At St. Lucia's Academy will end up being Mei's allies, but Mei's true rival who's name I will not reveal will remain an antagonist til the very end.
I almost never rewatch animes, but there are a golden few that I have done so at least once. Recently I started rewatching Yu Yu Hakusho dubbed in Cantonese. Whether you watched it subbed or dubbed, it doesn't matter. This show is really a gem of the 90s. I find the Cantonese dubs hilarious because it reminds me so much of Hong Kong gangsters only to be portrayed by Japanese delinquents. I absolutely love the voices they gave to each character even though I wasn't too satisfied with Hiei's at first but, I got used to it in the end. I'm up to the saving Yukina arc and that's one of my favorite arcs next to the Dark Tournament arc. Ahh Kuwabara, your comedic antics never ceases to humor me.
I find that Togashi Yoshihiro-sensei is an amazing story teller. Based on his two notable works, Yu Yu Hakusho and HunterXHunter, Togashi has this ability to draw the story in full circle. Events don't just build up and topple on each other in the end. In comparison to Kubo Tite who is known for creating many new characters to fuel the story, Togashi's characters have a lot of dimension. Even though it's quite easily see how the four main guys in YYH become the four main guys in HXH, they still have something that makes them unique from each other.
