I can't say I have been the most active in keeping up with anime. Especially when I come home dead tired from work. To keep things simple, I've narrowed myself down to only 3 series this spring.
Natsume Yuujinchou Roku
Last season's run of Natsume Yuujinchou had me extremely upset. Other than the Matoba arc that they had covered, most of the episodes were pretty boring. They shirked on the animation too. Nyanko-sensei may be fat and round, but they drew him poorly like a moving white blob. That's not how you treat everyone's favorite cat mascot.
I was pleased to see that season six had a lot of interesting things happening. It was really funny and there's a lot of action going on. There's a concrete theme running through. Natsume has gotten much more comfortable being around people that he cares about. He no long fears about fitting in rather it's now his friends that want to share his burden. You see that in each episode, Natsume is always protecting his friends from yokai and making sure no one knows about it. Though I wonder if this might change since Taki and Tanuma know his secret, they want to offer more help. Natori as well seems to show much care for Natsume.
Some questions I have for this season would mostly be will we learn more about Reiko and will Natsume's secret about the Yuujinchou will be discovered.
Shingeki no Kyojin Season Two
Aaahhh. The fans have been waiting for this one. We had Kotetsujou ni Kabaneri to get us hype for season two. Episode one continues straight from where we cut off from season one. While we still have plenty of questions about Annie and Titans in general, the characters are plunged into yet more conflict where we have the appearance of Beast Titan who knows human speech and the fear of more Titans among the 104th training corps. The questions for the series will never end, but most importantly ... what's in Eren's basement?
Uchouten Kazoku Season Two
It's kind of hard to describe Uchouten Kazoku. While your characters are tanuki and tengu, it's not about the supernatural. The story is a lot of drama between families. Nidaime has returned from Europe and we see that there is very bitter blood between him and his father, Akadama-sensei. Nidaime and Benten also have a dangerous rivalry and it appears they had met in Europe before. The mysterious Friday Fellows group is still in existence and we have some more strange characters mainly Tenmaya who is able to conjure illusions. It's hard to tell who is human and who isn't anymore.
One of the selling points of the series is its variety in character. Tanuki are depicted as very carefree, but you can see that they harbor a lot of emotions like humans. Perhaps it's intentional that the human characters are perhaps the cruelest in the series. Benten is beautiful and whimsical, but she is selfish and partially the reason responsible for the death of Soichiro in season one. Her ambiguous nature makes it hard to tell her friend from foe as you see that she does show care for Akadama-sensei and interest in Yasaburo, our protagonist. We only get a sliver of a flashback to the fight between Nidaime and Akadama, but what truly sparked the rage between them? Perhaps we'll know later in the episodes. And who are the Friday Fellows? They seem to be both human and non-human, but possess high interest in supernatural artifacts.
