The GazettE @ Playstation Theater NYC

For starters I am a casual GazettE fan. I listen to their stuff, but I can't remember their lyrics and sometimes I forget song titles. Still I would not give up a chance to see them live since they arrived at my hometown. Most importantly last night was that I had so much fun. You don't have to be a dedicated fan to feel atmosphere.

I arrived on line at 6:20 or so and that general admissions line was so damn long. It was cold and there was a forecast for rain. I ignored it entirely hoping that it would rain when i get inside the venue, but that turned out to be wrong. While we waited, it was clammy and wet. Most of us were under dressed and didn't carry umbrellas. I shivered under my raincoat even though I had layered. When it was 7pm, the line had barely moved. I didn't get into the venue until maybe 7:45.

Gathering from previous experiences, I stayed away from the mosh pit. I stayed towards the back and let people pass me. I honestly liked this crowd a lot because we were very cool in the back, but we were also energetic. Just a heads up, you can still have a lot of fun if you are standing in the back. I didn't know which side I should stand because I didn't know where each member of the band would stand. So I took a gamble and picked the left side close to the pillar area. Best decision of my life.

It was Aoi on the left! After last night's show, he became my favorite member. They were all great and beautiful to watch. I could see all of them pretty clearly except for Uruha unless he stood on a higher platform or when he takes Ruki's spot. Kai was all smiles and it's great seeing him smile while he plays drums. Aoi did a little dance during one of the segments and I just thought it was hot. I didn't know you were the sexy one! He even blew kisses to the audience. Ruki said "What's up New York" a lot of times. I think he also said something like "You guys are crazy."

For the first time, I was jumping at a concert. I'm usually the type of person that nods and sways. Last night I was jumping and fist pumping at the same time. There goes my daily exercise. I was headbanging furiously and didn't care how I looked. Everybody's too hyped and happy to care how you look. Because of my headbanging, the neck is sore due to an injury that never healed properly. Oops. No regrets though. Props to Playstation Theater for putting safety first. There was a staff with a flashlight in the back checking on the crowd to make sure it was ok. I saw staff in the front handing out some water. I don't know what went on in the pit and I'm hoping no one got seriously hurt. Again from what I saw, I think we were a good crowd overall.

Like I said before, I'm a casual fan. I recognize the songs, but forget the titles. I only remembered a handful. Just to name a few, they were "Nihil", "Dogma", "Ominous", "Suicide Circus", "Derangement", "Ugly", and "Filth in the Beauty". The line to merchandise was long and unorganized. People were squished together and there were only two people working the table. They should have organized it better so it would be more efficient. One guy fainted too. I hope it was nothing to serious. I was on the line for probably half an hour and it really felt like I hadn't moved at all. When I got there, I went for the Malum Tshirt ($35). I thought I would be a size M, but it was too big for me so I opted for size S. Outside the venue, there were guys selling bootleg posters for $5.

I've been a fan for about 8 years and time really flies. I was still in school and starting to get into heavier music. If a classmate hadn't introduced them to me, I would have never heard of the GazettE. They're not as important to me as Dir en grey, but their music is something of a landmark for Japanese rock and metal. Playstation Theater was a good venue to play. The effects and lighting were really good. Sound was ok in my opinion, but everyone was able to shine in their performance.
