[Food Review] Never Get Tired of Sundubu

It seems that every time I got to Muk Eun Ji or just about any Korean Restaurant, I end up going for sundubu because it's what my budget can allow. But my stomach is still satisfied.

So on a cold winter night as I wait on the streets of Ktown, I thought about what I wanted to eat. Do I go for the stone pot bibimbap finally? Or do I pick a non-spicy stew of some sort? Or maybe I should go for a bowl of noodles. The possibilities are endless for a glutton like me and indecisiveness proves to be a big problem.

My two friends finally arrive and we walk into Muk Eun Ji. On a Friday night around 6pm, we were seated quickly unlike BCD Tofu House down the block where I saw lots of people waiting by the door. I miss that deep fried yellow croaker, but Muk Eun Ji's banchan doesn't disappoint. That night we had house kimchi that always met the expectations, broccoli, seaweed, bean sprouts, a carrot and radish mix, a potato and apple salad that I never cared for, sweetened dried fish, and candied lotus roots. I've been having a lot of lotus root recently and they've been in season so far. Candied lotus roots are quite a treat. I never had the dried fish as a banchan so it was another treat I enjoyed. The carrot and radish mix however wasn't that great in my opinion.

That night I glanced through the pages of the menu and picked sundubu in the end. I was going to go for a noodle stew or maybe even a budae jigae just for the hell of it. I was even going to throw in an appetizer, a plate of mandu. However the page of sundubu still caught my eye. I went for seafood previously so this time I went for a beef sundubu. Maybe I should have went for a chicken or pork option. My sundubu had a lot of tofu. Or course it's a sundubu, there's gotta be tofu. But my bowl had a lot of tofu, even more than usual and my beef was actually shredded than sliced.

I was really full that night emptying my sundubu and sweeping as much of the banchan along with two cups of barley tea and a can of ginger ale. I seriously thought I could eat more, but I had to be reminded that my stomach is not a black hole. $11.99 for a sundubu is a great deal.
