China Trip Part 18: Departing Huizhou

Even on the final day of my Huizhou visit, we still had to see one of the grandma's friends. For breakfast of course and you guessed it, dim sum. The old man had an extremely thick accent on his Chinese making it nearly impossible for me to understand. As usual, I paid more attention to the food than the people.

From what I remember, breakfast consisted of chicken feet cooked in medicinal broth, a baked pork bun, rice sheets, a signature wonton soup, a layered taro cake, lamb, a durian snack, and a few other things. The durian cream thing I had was actually pretty tasty even though I absolutely despise the smell of durian. It's lightly sweet and melts in your mouth. Rice sheets are always my favorite dim sum no matter where I go. The lamb I heard from the old man and his wife is supposedly a specialty of this particular restaurant. It was really heavy on the spice rub and the flavors were really strong for a breakfast food. I would prefer having lamb for dinner instead.

After the long breakfast, we were heading back home to Guangzhou. It was a 2 hour bus, an hour long train ride, and local bus ride combined together. I was dead tired when I got home and it really until the last day of the Huizhou trip that my cold finally cleared up. A pity I couldn't enjoy the trip as I wanted to. Back home in Guangzhou, I was bored to tears. I had no paper to draw on and there was never a chance when I could go out to buy simple art supplies. I would have to travel further to buy art supplies and I wasn't too familiar with the area.

It was raining the day we came back. Somewhat cooler weather, but still the same stickiness. My days left in China were numbered. I had only two weeks left and I hadn't completed half the things on my to-do list. By chance, I finally bought a copy of Anime Weekly at the newspaper stands. They were always sold out by the time I got there. 4RMB per copy. I think they're a little behind in terms of anime related news considering social media is the quickest way to transport any sort of information. I call it Anime Weekly, but more accurately it should be China Animation Weekly because it also consists of Chinese produced animation and foreign entertainment news like Hollywood. For 4RMB, it's the closest to entertainment other than Tumblr which uses up my data way too quickly.
