With the weather in high forties and low fifties, that should be real fine except it was incredibly gusty in Flushing. That wind was about to whisk the three of us into the sky. It was another day out for my two friends and I and we wanted dim sum.
To be accurate, it was actually me and one other friend that brought it up. With the sudden craving to "yum cha", we couldn't let go of these thoughts. The images of piping hot food filled our minds two days earlier. We visited Jade Asian Restaurant hoping that they would still have dim sum specials for $2 each. Unfortunately that was not the case. They went with the usual fares and put dim sum specials on three select items for each day of the week. It was a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy, but not enough to call it cold. Still food came quick enough and we were seated near the entrance which I didn't like too much. It's usually the place you get ignored the most, but luckily most of the carts passed by. However it was the same cart passing by. Where was the good stuff we usually go for?
The selection of dim sum was still large, but it was missing one of my favorites, the wrapped bean curd skin. Too bad it was part of the dim sum specials on Mondays. Damn it. The food was fresh however. Our late brunch consisted of two plates of shrimp wrapped in rice sheets, soup dumplings, steamed spare ribs, steamed tripe, chicken legs, fried stuffed egg plant, fried dough wrapped in rice sheets, and a unique looking shrimp dumpling. We also ordered one bowl of tofu dessert which the Tuesday dim sum special. Our total in the end came out to about $40. We were very full and they didn't skimp on the food except maybe add peanuts to the chicken legs. I think I will still come back for their dim sum in the future.
When we walked out the restaurant to browse around the nearby malls, a huge gust of wind hit us in the face. It was strong enough to knock us to the ground if we weren't to careful. I felt the bits of sand and dirt hit my eyes and mouth. In an instant, I would forget the existence of the sun behind the clouds and experience cold wind around my bare neck. Where was a scarf when you need one? As we walk by the shops, there were so many temptations. All the foods were beckoning to our gluttonous senses. Even when we were finished with dim sum, we pointed to a newly opened hot pot place. Round two anyone?
