Drama: Murder in the First (2014)
This TNT detective drama has recently finished airing and that ending was like ... wow. I thought it would a little more dramatic, but maybe the reason behind it was to reflect how the aftermath of a heated case is sometimes more quiet and brooding. Murder in the First investigates two cases that are seemingly unrelated. The tension between the detectives, Terry English and Hildy Mulligan, and Erich Blunt is just great. In each episode, there's always this wavering decision between proving Blunt innocent or guilty. You have to watch the entire series to the end to get to the bottom of the case.
Anime: Nobunaga Concerto
Most people I know are talking about the more popular series like Aldnoah. Zero or Dramatical Murder and I would like to focus on Nobunaga Concerto. There have been a lot of titles recently carrying the name, Nobunaga, and I feel that Nobunaga Concerto gets overshadowed because of that. To name a few off the top of my head, there's Nobunaga the Fool, Oda Nobuna no Yabou, and Nobunagun. Also the fact that he's a popular historical figure inspires writers to create more about him. The story goes that Saburou who slacks off at school in present-day Japan travels back to the sengoku era through a time slip. The real Nobunaga sees that Saburou looks just him and asks him to take his place. Starting from there, Saburou is reliving Japanese history and making sure that his actions don't disrupt the timeline.
Song: Stand Proud by Hashimoto Jin
Currently I have this song on replay on my phone and it's just great. For those unaware, Stand Proud is the opening theme to the anime, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, of the third arc, Stardust Crusaders. The opening themes thus far for the series have always been very powerful and made specifically for the arcs. Stand Proud is somewhat of a speed metal song, but I would say alternative metal to be safe. Other than having the word "stand" in the title, the lyrics relate very much to the story arc. The main characters band together to fight, Dio, a vampire that has awakened from his hundred year old slumber and has been an enemy to the Joestar bloodline since the beginning. The descendants of the Joestars, Kujo Jotaro and Joseph Joestar, along with Mohammed Avdol, Kakyoin Noriaki, and J.P. Polnareff travel to Egypt to defeat Dio. It's a very exciting and dramatic adventure story and has been known to be the most popular arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In the animated opening, it has been noted that there's quite a lot of symbolism and references going on in the span of one minute and 30 seconds. Impressive.
Album: Enigma by Deathgaze
It has been ages since I heard from Deathgaze. The last time they promoted was when they released the PV for The Underworld. Well, I'm glad they released an album finally. However I wasn't too buzzed about it. It just doesn't have that same energy that their previous albums have apart from a few songs like ALLURE. I'm sorry to say that they are all sounding the same to me. Even their ballads didn't interest me as much. To me, The Underworld sounded like the most effort was put into it.
Soundtrack: Kingdom Original Soundtrack
This soundtrack was released ages ago and no one online seems to have listened to it until recently. I gave it a sample. It does have a theme that runs in the anime, but there wasn't a particular track that stuck with me. I think this is a problem that composers encounter. The composition may be good, but it doesn't stand out from other similar compositions. Kingdom is a story of Xin rising up to the ranks of a general so there's a lot of warfare going on. Music wise, there's fanfare and stuff like that. Lots of brass instruments and strings in this soundtrack. There's a lot of tracks, but each track is under two minutes. I wish there was more variety in this soundtrack.
